Description
Not a single fruit but a composite formed from hundreds of small flowers. With a firm crown and skin turned golden, a fresh pineapple offers an aroma no tinned version can approach.
Taste & Texture
Sharp and refreshing, balancing high acid against high sugar. The base is the sweetest part. If a crown leaf pulls away easily and the base smells distinctly fragrant, it is ripe.
How to Enjoy
- Peel and cut into rings or spears to eat fresh.
- Caramelise on the grill and serve alongside meat.
- Use freshly juiced in cocktails and smoothies.
- Add to stir-fries and rice dishes for sweet-sour balance.
Storage
A whole pineapple keeps 2–3 days at room temperature or 5–7 days refrigerated. Once cut, store covered and use within 3 days.

Rich in vitamin C and manganese. Contains a natural group of enzymes known as bromelain.
